DCP Packing List

Well it's official... I'm leaving for Orlando in just a few days! Today is Tuesday, and I'm starting my journey to Disney on Saturday morning. My dad and I are driving down to Macon, Georgia on Saturday and then completing the trip to Orlando on Sunday. I'll probably do a post Sunday night with an update of the road trip there! For now, I must focus on the most daunting task I have yet to encounter in this process: PACKING. How do I pack for a semester in a far-off vacation destination with an entirely new atmosphere and climate? I guess the initial step is to make a packing list! (How closely I will follow this list is questionable so I will provide annotations describing what I actually pack after I do so... hopefully it won't be the day before!)

Summer Update

This summer I had the privilege of experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. And no, I'm not talking about South Africa again. I'm talking about what Truman kids call a Kirksville Summer.

I'm sorry I'm a terrible blogger

Greetings and let me just jump right in here and apologize to the select 4-5 people that are aware of this blog's existence. I'm sorry I haven't made a post in around 4 months! I'm very disappointed in myself because I wanted to document a lot more this summer and give a rundown of my time in South Africa. Unfortunately, extreme business in combination with extreme laziness prevented such things from occurring and here I am today, filled with chagrin. Truth is, I found the whole South Africa experience very daunting to write about. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime things that doesn't even feel like it was real. I tried to start a blog post once or twice, but there was just too much to describe and I didn't know where to start. I did, however, write a daily journal while I was there that was pretty detailed so if you have been waiting on edge for four months ready for South Africa synopsis, hit me up and we can set up a tentative schedule to do some journal readings together. For now, suffice it to say that it was absolutely the most wonderful and enlightening experience of my life. For now, let me just let a few pictures do the talking:

Packing List

Ok so time to get down to the nitty gritty... what do I pack for 2 weeks in South Africa?! This is probably the most daunting question of all, especially because for the most part we will be camping and will need to bring minimal luggage in order to transport all of it easily. We will get to do laundry once during this time period, which will be extremely helpful but the question still stands: what exactly do I need/not need? Since I have never been to South Africa, I cannot safely answer this question and will probably not know everything that would have been useful until I arrive and experience it myself! However, I can show you the packing list set for me by Dr. Fore with some annotations as to what I personally am bringing along. Without further ado:

Less than 2 weeks away?!

Yo, yo, yo diggity yo! Long time no post. Sorry, things have been getting pretty crazy in both school and life recently with finals encroaching and projects mounding. However, I think a South Africa update is needed because the trip is officially less than 2 weeks away! 13 DAYS, that's right folks, 13 days until I'm hugging hippos and frolicking with felines in South Africa! This post is going to include a lot of general information that I have neglected to tell you so far. First off, here's a link to a super neat Buzzfeed article that dictates all the wondrous possibilities of a South African vacation experience!

Baby's First Beer Bong!

Hi fans! Today I'm just here relay to you the unfortunate events of last night. I want to document this moment so that I can remember it forever, because it was truly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life and I want the world to know about it! (look away Grandma! You don't need to read this! LOL)

Who Could You BBB?!

Hey everybody!
I have a super random and exciting tidbit to share with you today. This semester, I've been pledging an honors biology fraternity called BBB (Tri Beta). I'm already a second semester junior so I probably should have done this wayyyy sooner. It took a couple years, but I finally overcame my laziness and I'm really glad I did!

8 Events in Jumanji That I Really Hope Don't Happen in South Africa

I doubt even my malaria meds would defend me against these suckers

Life of a Truman Student

How I feel about heading back to Kirksville tomorrow:

For those of you who don't know what the heck, Kirksville is a small town in northern Missouri (I say small, but it is actually one of the biggest towns in northern MO which really says something) that is home to my college, Truman State University where I study Biology with a minor in Procrastination.

See Ya Real Soon, Disney!!!!

So this post has been a long time coming. I haven't really been sure how to start, because I have read so many Disney College Program blogs and all of them begin with the generic "Hi! I'm so-and-so. I applied for the DCP on this date and got accepted on this date! My phone interview was 19.7 minutes long. I am so excited to share this amazing journey with you! etc. etc."). Not that that isn't a great way to start out your blog, but there are already SO many blogs out there with that format. So to start off, I thought I'd just do a quick rapid fire of information:

"African't" Wait!!!!!

GOODMORNING WORLD....
Coming to you live from my bed at 2:42 AM where I am still hopelessly awake for some odd reason unknown to man... I have a 7:30 class tomorrow (or should I say today) so this is no bueno! Since I apparently won't be sleeping, I thought I'd just blog a bit and tell you a few things about my upcoming trip to the other side of the world.
